Summit Industries, Inc. traces its origins to 1920 when it was formed to sell proprietary medicines. Over the years, the company acquired or developed products of high quality with the potential for significant growth. One of these products is Lexol Leather Conditioner and Preservative.
Lexol was purchased by Summit in 1977 from a family located in West Caldwell, New Jersey. Lexol's primary market at that time was to the tack and saddlery field. Some smaller markets like the shoe repair and antique automobile market indicated some growth potential was available. With the increase in leather interiors in both import and domestic automobiles Lexol's second and fastest growing market is definitely the automotive market. More than 1/3 of all cars and trucks come with leather interiors. This market has been an exciting one for Lexol.
In the early 1980's Lexol wanted to introduce a leather cleaning product to pair with the conditioner. Researching the current products on the market such as saddle soap we realized there was no good leather cleaner available. Our chemists developed a pH balanced cleaner called Lexol-pH Leather Cleaner. It is now the number one selling leather cleaner product. The most important consideration when cleaning leather is to make sure the pH range is the same as leather. Soaps are alkaline by their nature and have been shown to literally de-tan leather over time. Just like our own facial skin you prefer to use a cleansing cream that will not dry out the skin. Similarly it is essential to use a pH balanced cleaner not saddle soap to clean leather. Lexol-pH safely cleans and lifts away old oils that trap dirt. Once the leather is cleaned follow immediately with Lexol Conditioner and Preservative. The microscopic oil droplets penetrate into the leather, bonding with the fibers to prevent cracks from forming. It contains the same oils that are used when the leather was tanned. Regular use of Lexol Conditioner keeps your leather interior soft and supple. Lexol does not leave a greasy residue on the surface. If it does, you need to wipe off any excess with a damp cloth. Lexol allows you to enjoy your beautiful leather interior for many years as your fine automobile begins to age. You will appreciate how fine leather takes on the character of great quality.
